We invite you to join us in creating an ‘illegal’ speculative narrative about possible future reconstructions of Chiswick House, critically re-imagined as ‘Cheswick House’, through online interaction in May – July, followed by an in-person workshop at Chiswick House and Gardens on 10th September 2022 as part of the event "Chiswick House and Garden’s Open House Festival ".
The workshop will involve archaeological investigations working with artefacts found in the future in a ‘future fossil’-making activity, and an ‘alternative’ tour of Cheswick House led by members of the public, drawing on their own expertise to craft critical new heritage narratives. They will be guided by a range of experts including archaeologist and conservator Dr Dean Sully, architectural historian and urban anthropologist Dr Clare Melhuish, and architectural heritage researchers and professional Clemency Gibbs, and Katherine Beckwith from UCL. Following the workshop there could be an opportunity for those who are interested to exhibit their ‘excavated’ fossils of the future, and documentation of the alternative tours, in a future exhibition or publications.
We invite you to register your interest using the link here, and, following in the footsteps of Lord Burlington, begin collecting fragments and objects from your own personal or other worlds to re-assemble as part of a new, speculative, ‘Cheswick House’ narrative.
